When Meimei was stolen from her village by the Carthakis she had been a bloody dirty mess, but they had cleaned her up and now she was ready to be sold in the capital. The slave trader chained her hands and legs and put her in a cage that held twenty others, all naked except for loincloths. When number fifteen was called she stumbled out and up onto the stage, led by the trader on a three-foot long leash and collar. Then the trading started. People-mostly men-started coming up, poking and prodding and examining.
